The Community of the Incarnation at Kansas City is a healing ministry: we believe that healing happens on many levels, including mind, body, and spirit. For some, healing means healing from the pain inflicted by dogmatic organized religion. Both pastors, Bishop Janet Sunderland and Bishop Cliff Kroski, work from the perspective that many of our diseases in mind and body stem from a spiritual disquiet or dis-ease. Healing does not mean that the body doesn't ever suffer or have problems. Spiritual healing means we can live in a sense of peace and balance whatever the physical or mental challenges.
Bishop Sunderland, M.A., M.Div., is a teacher, spiritual counselor, and healer, practicing a hands-on technique called Huna Lomi (body/spirit) healing. She is available for private healing or counseling sessions. She is also a writer and teaches communication skills, both oral and written. Janet was raised on a farm in Marshall County, Kansas. The land and seasons framed her early spiritual foundation as much as her childhood religious training in a Protestant Bible church. Through the years, she also trained with a variety of spiritual teachers; Buddhist, Native American, Mexican, and Hawaiian. She received a BFA from Kansas State University, and an MA from St. John's College in Santa Fe.
She studied with Sophia Divinity School in Santa Fe, receiving an M.Div. and was ordained to the priesthood in 1997.
Bishop Cliff Kroski, M.Div., has been a priest, counselor, and teacher for 30 years. He has worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups in the areas of substance abuse, domestic violence, relationship issues, anger and stress management, and a variety of mental health concerns. He teaches psychology, philosophy, and theology.
Cliff was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was ordained into the Roman Catholic priesthood. He has a Master of Divinity degree from Saint Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland. Saint Mary's is the oldest Roman Catholic Seminary in the United States.
In 1992, while living in Santa Fe, NM; Cliff was incardinated as a priest into the Independent Catholic movement.
